OLBIA / ARGENTIERA / LAKE BARATZ / ALGHERO
The group will meet in Olbia, then departure to the region of Argentiera, home of the ancient silver miners. We will visit the site and continue to the only natural lake of the island, Lake Baratz. In the late morning arrival in Alghero, hotel accommodation and lunch. In the afternoon, visit to the city, that still preserves the traditions and the Catalan language, return to the hotel in the evening, dinner and overnight.
PISCINAS DUNES AND COSTA VERDE / VILLANOVAFORRU
Breakfast at hotel, and departure to the south of the island, we will go for a hike in Costa Verde and in dunes of Piscinas. We will have lunch in a restaurant. In the afternoon we will drive to Villanovaforru, there we will have hotel accommodation, dinner and overnight.
BARUMINI AND GIARA GESTURI / VILLANOVAFORRU
Full board in hotel. Visit to Barumini, the most impressive nuragic complex of the island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, visit to the Museum “Casa Zapata”, which includes archaeological, ethnographic and historical sections. The Museum is located in an old aristocratic house of Aragon, who eventually was built over an impressive nuragic site, visible from the floor of the house, which is to be excavated. In the afternoon, excursion to visit the Plateau of Giara, where the Sardinian horses live free and it is easy to find various floral endemic species of the island. Return in the evening at the hotel.
SANLURI / DOMUSNOVAS / IGLESIAS / PORTO FLAVIA / MASUA / S. ANTIOCO
Half board in hotel, and departure to Sanluri, to visit the only medieval castle still accessible in the island, which currently keeps a section dedicated to the Risorgimento era and is always has many visitors. We will continue to Domusnovas and visit the Cave of St. John. Finally we arrive in Iglesias and have lunch in a restaurant. We will have a walk in this town and then continue to Nebida, to see the sugarloaf’s of Masua and to visit the mines of Port Flavia. Continue to S. Antioco, hotel accommodation, dinner and overnight.
S. ANTIOCHUS AND SAINT PETER’S ISLANDS
Half board in hotel. Departure by ferry from Calasetta for only passengers, we go for a full day excursion to St. Peter’s island, a walking tour to the historic center of Carloforte, founded around 200 years ago, by a colony of Ligurian exiles, fleeing away from the island of Tabarka in Tunisia. The island still has the dialect and traditions of Liguria, and is therefore an island within an island. Lunch in a restaurant based on fish. Early afternoon return to Calasetta and visit S. Antioco, formerly inhabited by populations that have left several witnesses. Visit to the local museum and to the Tophet (ancient burials of the Punic period). In the evening return to the hotel.
NUORO / ORGOSOLO
After breakfast at hotel, we will depart to Nuoro, capital of Barbagia, the wildest region of the island, where the traditions are still deeply rooted. Visit to the Museum of Custom, which collects all the habits and customs of the island and the House-Museum of Grazia Deledda (Nobel Prize for Literature in 1936). Continue to Orgosolo and outdoor dining with the shepherds with typical Sardinian cuisine. In the afternoon, visit to the murals of the town and return to Nuoro, hotel accommodation, dinner and overnight.
CALAGONE / CALA LUNA AND CAVE ISPINIGOLI
We will have breakfast at hotel and departure to Cala Gonone, for boarding a boat to the Caves of Bue Marino. We will relax in the beautiful bay of Cala Luna, and have packed lunch, provided by the hotel. Return in the afternoon and continue to Ispinigoli, to visit the famous cave called Abyss of Virgins, as it seems to have been used for human sacrifices in ancient times. In the evening return to Olbia and end of the tour.
